Hush X SickKids Foundation: Nori's Room

Hush X SickKids Foundation: Nori's Room

Date: Author: Mehrene Sachedina

This is Nori. She’s 11 years old and already a SickKids’ patient ambassador. After bravely battling cancer for the first time at just 6 years old, she is now undergoing treatment for the fourth time since her initial diagnosis of stage four neuroblastoma.

In November 2025, we had the privilege of being introduced to Nori through SickKids’ Corporate Breakfast in Toronto. She stood on stage and shared her story: a journey shaped by years of treatment, including major surgeries, bone marrow transplants, chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy. On top of everything, we learned that while Nori was navigating treatment, her family’s home had just experienced a devastating flood. Her bedroom, the space once meant for rest and healing, had been lost.

From the moment she spoke, we were moved by her strength, honesty, resilience, and the light she carries with her. In listening, we felt a genuine pull to support her in whatever way we could. We knew the most meaningful way we could give back was to rebuild Nori’s bedroom, so she could have a safe space to reset and just be a kid at home again.

As Nori continued her treatment, we set out to learn what her ideal bedroom would look like. We wanted every detail to reflect what she loves and how she wants her space utilized. Nori came to us with a clear and considered vision. Inspired by her trip to Japan, she dreamt of a Japanese-style book bed, a space that feels calm, comforting, and uniquely her own. We took her vision and planned for Nori’s use of the space not just now, but for future Nori too.

After months of designing, building, and bringing her vision to life, we were finally ready for the reveal. With every detail in place, from soft, calming textures to her favourite Jellycats, the room was finally hers again. And in seeing Nori’s reaction, what stood out most was hearing her parents, Jeff and Mae, indicate that is the first time they had ever seen happy tears from Nori.

Her young life has been marked by extraordinary resilience. And yet, when Nori speaks about her life, she doesn’t lead with illness. She talks about dancing. About music. About the things that make her feel free. She speaks with a mix of courage and eloquence that is beyond her years, while still holding onto the joy and spirit that make her unmistakably eleven.

Her journey hasn’t been easy. Treatment has meant hospital stays, uncertainty, and challenges no child should have to face. But through it all, Nori continues to show up with heart, not only for herself, but for other kids and families walking similar paths.

We are honoured to play a small role in Nori’s story, and to support her through our partnership with SickKids Foundation. Her journey is a reminder that bravery can look like choosing joy wherever you can find it. And that is exactly who Nori is.
