How Hush Keeps You Cool and Helps You Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Our duvet cover lovingly embraces your skin and is made entirely from organic bamboo viscose. This fabric is naturally breathable, with millions of tiny pores that let cool air in and hot air out. It’s also more lightweight than traditional cotton or silk bedding, which means you won’t feel smothered. If you do start to sweat, the moisture-wicking bamboo cover pulls it away from your skin, assisting your body’s natural cooling process.

The Hush gets its weight from non-toxic glass sand that has been precision-sewn into 100+ mini squares to ensure even weight distribution.

It drapes over your body in a firm, gentle hug, triggering Deep Touch Pressure Stimulation (DTPS) to calm your nervous system. And the ultra-fine glass sand in the Hush weighted blanket traps less body heat than the bulkier fillings in most weighted blankets.

The deep, evenly distributed pressure from the Hush weighted blanket doesn’t just help you snooze more quickly — it also improves your sleep quality, making you more energized and focused the next day. The weight applied by the Hush blanket actually influences your brain chemistry, prompting your body to produce more melatonin and less cortisol. This makes you feel sleepier and less stressed while increasing restful REM sleep.

The DTPS provided by a weighted blanket may help relieve sleep disorders like insomnia and restless leg syndrome. A growing body of research shows that weighted blankets may offer many other benefits as well, including relief from depression, anxiety, and chronic pain. And they do it all by activating your body’s natural relaxation response, with no chemicals or side effects.

Other Reasons You’ll Absolutely Love the Hush Blanket

The Hush Iced 2.0 isn’t just the best cooling weighted blanket you can find anywhere.

It’s also …

Green stalks of bamboo

The cooling fabric in the Hush duvet cover is made completely from organic, ethically-sourced bamboo. Bamboo grows fast with little water and no pesticides or synthetic fertilizer, making it one of the most sustainable textile crops on earth. And our weighted blanket is completely free of harmful chemicals, with an OEKO-TEX certification for safe materials.

Incredibly Soft

We love bamboo fabric for its cooling power, but did you know it’s also got a super-soft texture that feels like silk against your skin? We enhance that natural softness with our Iced finish, leaving the cover deliciously smooth and cool. Plus, the inner blanket is made of luxurious microfiber, so it’s easy on your skin even if you use it without the cover.

Sized Right For Your Bed

Some weighted blanket makers skimp on material, giving you a comforter that barely reaches the edges of your mattress. Our blankets fit your bed comfortably, with ample fabric to drape over the edges or wrap around your body. When you order one of our Queen-sized weighted blankets, you can be confident it will fit your Queen-sized mattress perfectly.

Made in Canada

Though we have to import some of our materials — like bamboo, which can’t be grown here — every one of our cooling weighted blankets is manufactured right here in Canada. That’s one reason we can offer free shipping anywhere in the country!

The 3 Easy Steps to Cooler, Better Sleep

Choose the size that fits your mattress and comes closest to 10% of your body weight. (If you sleep with a partner, go with 10% of your combined weight.)

Wait for your blanket to arrive in the mail! When it does, swap it in for your comforter. Hot sleepers may want to ditch their top sheets.

Keep your blanket clean by machine-washing the cover. Use cold water, and hang dry if possible. You can spot-clean the inner weight from time to time, or hand-wash it in the tub if your pet or baby has an accident.

The Inspiration

While volunteering at a camp for children with disabilities, Lior learned that occupational therapists were using 'weighted' throws to help children with autism calm down, de-stress, and get better rest. "How is this not a thing for adults like me?!?!" he thought, and immediately picked up the phone to call his friend Aaron.

The Challenge

The two quickly developed a working weighted blanket prototype and brought it to market. Within two years, they had helped thousands of insomniacs sleep through the night. But there was one comment they heard over and over again: "Hush, I'm hot for you … literally." It wasn't a compliment.

The Innovation

In 2019, Aaron and Lior developed the world's first cooling weighted blanket, the Hush Iced, and brought it to CBC's Dragon's Den. The ask was $400,000 for 10% equity to help get the new product to market. All six Dragons wanted a piece! Since then, they’ve developed an even cooler version of that blanket ... the Hush Iced 2.0! It’s been a smash hit with sleepers prone to night sweats.

The Science Behind Weighted Blankets

The best cooling weighted blankets help you achieve deeper relaxation without overheating. But how do they calm you down? Here's a quick primer on the science of weighted blankets.

The first person to recognize that steady, firm, even pressure could have calming effects was autism researcher Temple Grandin. She found that gentle squeezing from a "hug machine" relieved her stress, even though hugs from other people tended to make her anxious.

Further research connected this effect with the body’s deep pressure receptors that respond to firm touch. Activation of these nerves appears to reduce our natural stress responses. This is part of why most of us like to be held when we're scared or upset.

Occupational therapists wanted to use this effect to help children with sensory issues relax and focus in school. But most classrooms can't afford a full-sized squeeze machine. So these therapists began experimenting with weighted blankets and vests as a simpler way to provide deep touch pressure.

The study of these tools is still developing, but more and more research is showing that weighted blankets work for problems like depression, anxiety, and insomnia.
